Dear Orient Homeowners,
In the Spring of 2010, Suffolk County Water Authority will be installing water main along Main Road to an interconnection point at our Browns Hills Road pumping station. This enhancement
will provide better service to our existing Browns Hills Customers, as well as provide public water access to any existing home or business along the route of this extension.
The Town Board of Southold has asked that the Authority survey the existing homeowners along the extension route to ascertain if anyone else might be interested in
hooking up to our system when our main is installed.
If you have an interest in connecting your home to our system, now or in the future, please respond to the survery below, prior to the upcoming April 6th
Town of Southold Board hearing.
Here are the benefits of having public water supply
-
HEALTH – Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA) tests more than 74,000 water samples each year. We test for 300 chemicals, 100 more than required by federal
and state agencies. We have a proven track record of providing safe water.
-
PROPERTY VALUE – Public water installations increase property values or at a minimum make it easier to sell your home.
-
FIRE HYDRANTS – At the local Fire Departments request, hydrants will be installed where deemed necessary, adding additional fire protection to your neighborhood.
- SAVE MONEY –
- Electricity: Save $ 75 year from not using well pump.
- Bottled Water: Save what you are spending on bottled water.
- Insurance: Homeowner’s insurance can decrease due to fire hydrants.
- Repairs/Maintenance: Save on repairs for your well and pump.
- Testing: Save on cost of testing your well water each year.
-
PROPERTY FLEXIBILITY – Increases flexibility in locating cesspool and structures on your property. No need to keep 100-150’ separation between cesspool
and well.
-
LESS CORROSION OF PIPES AND STAINING OF SINKS AND BATHROOMS – Public water is treated to change PH to neutral to prevent corrosion (vs. acid from your
wells). Plus a polyphosphate is added to the water to force out the IRON, which is the typical cause of staining.
-
WATER PRESSURE – Public water is likely to provide much better water pressure than your well/pump currently provides.
-
SUFFICIENT SUPPLY – SCWA will continue to develop new water sources including digging new deeper wells and bringing in water from other areas such as
the Pine Barrens region.
-
WEATHER DISRUPTIONS – When electric power is lost from storms, public water still flows.
