2002 Water Week Activities

We recently mailed lettersto more than 300 principals throughout Suffolk County announcing our 2002 Water Week Slogan Contest and are please to announce that entries are already being received. The first three schools to participate this year are OUR LADY OF THE HAMPTONS in Southhampton, RILEY AVENUE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in Calverton and DICKINSON AVENUE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in East Northport. We look forward to receiving more entries soon.

Teachers of third through eighth grade students in Suffolk may want to help them participate in the contest, an official activity of Suffolk's Groundwater Guardian Team. This year's theme is "What Makes Suffolk Drinking Water Special?" Entries are limited to one per student and must be submitted by teachers or school officials. The other rules are as follows:

1. The slogan should be printed neatly in ink on the front of a standard business envelope. Please write the grade level on the envelope as well.

2. An index card giving the name of the child; the school, its address and telephone number; and the teacher of the participant should be placed inside each envelope. The envelopes should then be sealed.

3. Entries should be mailed to June Bolton, SCWA Public Relations Assistant, P.O. Box 38, Oakdale, NY 11769 no later than April 16, 2002.
