Military Surplus Water Tanks A Familiar Sight To Veterans
Drinking water for visitors to the Vietnam Wall Experience was furnished by the Suffolk County Water Authority, which provided two "water buffalos" from September 3-6 at the Calabro/Brookhaven Airport in Shirley. Connie Kruk, a Vietnam veteran, shown with his wife, Barbara Guarino Kruk, and one of the repainted military surplus tanks, said it seemed appropriate to have them on hand as such tanks were used for the troops in Vietnam. The two were among the organizers of the event, which enabled Long Islanders to see the three-quarter size replica of the Vietnam War Memorial shown at rear and personally pay their respects to more than 58,000 veterans whose lives were lost in Vietnam.
